Man charged with drunk driving in California after accident

A recent collision between a car and a train resulted in the arrest of one man. Two other people were injured. The man, a native American tribal official, was charged with drunk driving. His two teen sons were the injured parties in the California incident.

The 54-year-old was reportedly driving under the influence when he ran a red light and struck a Metro Expo Line train at a train crossing. All three occupants of the vehicle were rushed to the hospital. It was apparently determined that both teens had alcohol in their systems, leading the father to also be charged with furnishing alcohol to minors and child endangerment. At least one of the teens remains in critical condition.

The incident is at least the third time the man has been charged with serious crimes involving the operation of a motor vehicle. He was also convicted of a felony in connection with a 1980 stabbing. The driver is being held on $380,000 bail pending future court dates. The tribe has issued a statement indicating its sadness at the incident and the hope that the family can recover from the damage left in its wake.

A California drunk driving charge is a serious concern, and when a person is harmed during a potential drunk driving accident, the penalties under conviction become more severe. A person accused of drunk driving will likely want to mount a strong defense against the charges with the hope of having them dismissed or reduced. For many, a solution is to enlist the help of an experienced criminal defense attorney.
