California doctor faces drug charges in alleged pill mill

The responsibility of a doctor is great and so are the consequences for abusing that responsibility. One physician based in California has been accused of abusing her position to distribute drugs in an unauthorized manner. The woman faces felony drug charges in the wake of an investigation into her office, which some say was involved in distributing opioid narcotics without following medical protocols. In addition to criminal penalties, she could also lose her medical license.

Unfortunately for the doctor, she apparently has a record and history of lax adherence to controlled substance policy. Because of an earlier case, the doctor was already on a five-year probationary period regarding her medical license. In response to a recent complaint, three undercover officers say that they were able to obtain narcotic prescriptions from the doctor and that she failed to follow proper procedure.

It is alleged that the doctor would furnish prescriptions to patients for the fee of $150 per month. State officials have already petitioned to have her licensed rescinded and her probation revoked in the wake of the current accusations. As of now, the physician is not in custody and continues to practice out of her office.

Drug charges of this type could be devastating for the California doctor. She would likely suffer loss of income, possible fines and even jail time. It is her right, and the right of any person accused of a crime, to defend herself against the charges. Many look to the aid of a seasoned criminal defense attorney for support in mounting a vigorous defense against criminal charges.
