Passenger killed in suspected drunk driving crash in California

Driving under the influence of alcohol can cause serious consequences, especially if other people are involved. An allegation of drunk driving can bring charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony driving under the influence, amongst other charges. This week, a man was killed in an alleged drunk driving incident that happened in California.

Police report that the incident happened around 2:40 a.m. in Long Beach. Officers came upon the scene and found two passengers in the immobilized vehicle. One person was found to be suffering a broken leg and was transferred to a local hospital. The other person, a 31-year-old male passenger, was unconscious and eventually later declared dead.

The driver was apparently not on the scene. Officers located a man walking away from the scene a few blocks away. A witness identified the man as the alleged driver of the vehicle. Police found the individual to be under the influence and arrested him under charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit and run and felony driving under the influence.

Such grave charges surely call for a serious criminal defense. Drunk driving charges have a far-reaching impact that can affect the social and financial status of the person charged. Given the seriousness of the charge, the man in question is most certainly working on a strong criminal defense. Other California residents facing similar charges also have the right to do the same. A criminal defense attorney can be an invaluable resource for individuals finding themselves accused of a crime and in need of a good defense.
