The vast majority of medical care professionals in California are dedicated to their patients. They work hard to ensure they have the knowledge to provide adequate treatment and often work long hours seeing patients. Unfortunately, one doctor has recently expressed his shock after he was accused of sex crimes against his patients.
The 68-year-old doctor, who has been practicing medicine since 1977, is said to have sexually assaulted patients in his California office. Two women have come forward with accusations against the man. The incidents they allege reportedly occurred in 2014 and 2016.
Police believe that due to the length of the man's career, there may be additional victims. A news release cites multiple allegations, but it appears that charges have only been brought in regards to the two women. The doctor, claiming that he will fight to protect his reputation and prove his innocence, has posted bail since his arrest and returned to his practice. Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact them.
At this time, it is unclear what evidence, other than the allegations made by the two women, support the sex crimes charges against the California doctor. Because the criminal justice system requires a high burden of proof in order for a person to be convicted, the word of an alleged victim is often insufficient for a conviction of criminal charges. For those who find themselves facing such accusations, an experienced defense attorney can help them make informed decisions about their case, including whether to fight the charges in court or accept a plea deal.
