Pregnant women often report experiencing odd symptoms. Many could feel disoriented, for example. A representative for the California Highway Patrol claims that one pregnant woman was under the influence of alcohol when she caused an accident that resulted in a fatality. As a result of the alleged drunk driving, the 23-year-old woman has since been arrested.
The accident happened on a California roadway one night in May at approximately 10 p.m. Police believe that the woman was speeding when they say her vehicle struck a sports utility vehicle in the rear. The driver of the SUV reportedly lost control of the vehicle and drove down an embankment.
The SUV driver was transported to the hospital by helicopter while two other occupants were transported by ambulance. Another occupant, a 47-year-old man, passed away at the scene. Reports indicate that the woman, who is reportedly six months pregnant, was evaluated at the hospital and released. She has since been arrested, accused of driving under the influence. She could eventually be charged with murder.
This woman has a previous drunk driving conviction on her record. As such, it is easy to make assumptions about the most recent accident. However, there are many unanswered questions regarding the accident, and assumptions are not sufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Because of the seriousness of the charges she is likely to face, she could potentially benefit from the assistance of an experienced California attorney. Such a professional can guide her throughout all the stages involved with criminal charges.
