There are many types of heroes in California. Perhaps most heroic are those who are willing to place their own lives at risk in order to save another. Police are hailing one man as a hero after he allegedly rescued another man from a burning car. The victim of that fire has since been accused of drunk driving.
The incident happened one day in mid-June. According to reports, a man was headed to lunch when he noticed a car that had smoke coming from it. Upon further investigation, he noticed a man inside the vehicle who he was able to pull to safety. Officials say that the good Samaritan's actions likely saved the man's life.
Police claim that the man inside the car was driving under the influence, resulting in his arrest on a DUI charge. They additionally claim that the man, whose identity has not been released, accidentally set the engine of the car on fire, prompting officials to charge him with arson. It is unclear how police suspect he set the fire.
In addition to how the fire was started, it is unclear whether the man actually drove the vehicle anywhere as he is said to have been unconscious at the time the vehicle was discovered. Because of the complexity of the criminal justice process, many people in California who are accused of drunk driving and other crimes often need legal help. Fortunately, an experienced criminal defense attorney can help defendants fully understand the charges against them as well as their legal options.
