Man accused of sex crimes following teenager's accusations

Many people in California have made mistakes in their lives. Some of these mistakes have been fairly innocuous, while others resulted in imprisonment. Though a conviction gave them a criminal record for which they will likely be judged for the rest of their lives, many people turned their lives around. Regardless of these changes, there will still be people who assume that a person convicted of a crime will commit another crime simply because of his or her past history. One man who was previously arrested for sex crimes has recently been arrested again following the accusations of a teenager.

The 16-year-old female claims that she and the 33-year-old male met online in February. According to her accusations, they eventually met at her house where they engaged in consensual sex. The teenager's mother discovered the alleged relationship by reading the girl's text messages.

Records indicate that the mother found the man listed on the sex offender database. Both she and her daughter notified police of the alleged incident, and the man's home was searched, with several items confiscated. He has since been arrested and faces several charges.

Because the man has been convicted of similar sex crimes in the past, it is easy for authorities assume that he is guilty of these crimes based on the California girl's accusations alone. However, it is unclear what evidence supports the charges or whether the man was aware of the girl's age if a relationship did occur. In all cases, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt -- a standard that is likely not met based solely on the allegations of the young girl.
