Last week, I had the pleasure of hearing the words "Not Guilty" when the jury acquitted my client of all charges in a very serious case involving allegations of sex crimes. There is no sound sweeter to a criminal defense attorney's ears than "Not Guilty".
My client had a lot riding on this case. A 21 year-old college student, he was charged with Unlawful Penetration With a Foreign Object (a felony and a strike), Sexual Battery By Restraint (a felony and a strike), misdemeanor Sexual Battery, and Simple Battery. He was facing up to eight (8) years in prison as well as life-time registration as a sex offender.
From the beginning, I knew the evidence was on our side, but it always adds extra pressure when you know your client is innocent. It always adds extra pressure when you know your client is a good person. Hats off to him for standing his ground and asserting his innocence.
With this victory, I remain unbeaten in trial and I look forward to lengthening that streak very soon.
