California swim coach charged with sex crimes

Athletes -- even children -- who are dedicated to a sport often spend a great deal of time with their coaches. Many coaches establish close relationships with the children that they coach. To some outsiders, a close relationship may seem suspicious on the surface, even when perfectly innocent. Unfortunately, a swim coach in California faces allegations of sex crimes as a result of reported incidents involving a 7-year-old girl.

Reports indicate that the 27-year-old swim coach is suspected of fondling the alleged victim on multiple occasions. The claimed interactions are said to have occurred in a lounge for employees at the aquatic center that employed the man. He allegedly told the girl not to tell anyone about them.

While it is unclear how officials at the aquatic center became involved, one official claims that immediate action was taken once the allegations became known, which resulted in the man's arrest. He faces multiple counts of committing a lewd act on a child. If convicted, he could spend up to 14 years in prison. The man is scheduled to return to court in early February for a hearing to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to require a trial.

There are many issues surrounding the man's arrest following the allegations of sex crimes that lack clarity. For example, details surrounding how the allegations came to light and what evidence supports them are scarce. Unfortunately, the California man accused in this case could spend a significant period of his life in prison if convicted. An experienced attorney can help him examine the evidence against him and make informed decisions about his case.
