Arrests follow accusations of sex crimes in California

Information can be distributed both efficiently and privately thanks to advances in technology. However, some people can use technology to mask their own behavior, making it seem like a certain activity, such as distributing illegal materials, was actually perpetrated by someone else. As a result, an investigation regarding criminal activities involving computers, for example, must involve experienced professionals. Unfortunately, at least five people in California are facing sex crimes charges after investigators accused them of being involved in a child pornography ring.

Police say that they were able to identify two people, ages 38 and 34, that they claim were uploading child pornography and distributing it to others. Internet crimes investigators claims that the pornography dealt with children under the age of 10. The materials were allegedly distributed to multiple websites.

Police say that they were also able to identify recipients of the materials. As a result, three men, ages 35, 36 and 42, were also arrested. All five people face criminal charges including distribution and possession of child pornography.

There are many details about the case that are unclear, including how police officers began to suspect those now charged with sex crimes or how they determined that the defendants were the ones accessing the alleged materials. Because of the public perception of child pornography, it may be easy for some people to forget that these defendants are considered innocent until proved otherwise. In order to gain a conviction, prosecutors in California must provide sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Many people facing such charges seek help from an experienced defense attorney to help ensure they are treated lawfully throughout the criminal process.
