Drunk driving charges filed for California state senator

San Luis Obispo drivers may be interested in the story of one state senator who is facing drunk driving charges after allegedly driving while under the influence. The man is set to attend an upcoming hearing on the charges.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 22, police allege that they observed a Ford Fusion driving in the oncoming lane on 15th Street. The car, they claim, then made a U-turn to enter the correct lane. The police stopped the vehicle, driven by a San Diego state senator. During the traffic stop, they allege that the driver seem intoxicated. The driver was alone in the car at the time of the stop. The police took the man to jail where he was booked at approximately 3:30 a.m.

According to jail records, the man was taken into custody on charges of driving with a BAC level in excess of .08 percent and operating under the influence. A future court appearance is pending for the state senator. Reports indicate that he has been a part of the California State Senate since March of last year. Prior to that, he was a member of the State Assembly. Before to the alleged drunk driving incident, he was in attendance at a Latino Caucus dinner on the night of Aug. 21.
